Well, Bora Bora is located in French Polynesia, which means it’s part of France and belongs to an island chain in the Leeward group called the society islands of French.

The precious island is also called “pearl of the pacific and is 1600 miles Northwest of Tahiti, 2600 miles south of Hawaii and approximately 9 hours 55 minutes when flying from Los Angeles (LAX).

The Bora Bora airport is located on a separate part of the island called Motu Mete. On arrival, you’ll take a boat ride to your Bora Bora resort before getting to see the famous translucent lagoon.

Alternatively, if you’re using air Tahiti airlines, you’ll see the islands of Moorea, Raia tea and Tahaa along the way. From Papeete, it’s less than a one-hour air flight to the island.

  • Tokyo (TYO) to Papeete (PPT) is 11 hours 30 minutes

Size of Bora Bora

Bora Bora (which is in French and in Tahitian called it Pora Pora) is an island that’s 30.55km2 (12 sq mi), in the French republic. The main island is located about 230 kilometers or 143 miles northwest of Papeete encircled by a lagoon and a barrier reef.

In the center of the island exist the extinct volcano giving the rise to two peak zone on the island called Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu at 727 meters (or 2, 385 feet) present the highest point.

This has become part of the commune of Bora Bora which also includes the atoll Tupai.
